In 2000 Paul collaborated with Richard Colburn of Belle and Sebastian to remix ‘Starfighter Pilot’ for Snow Patrol. Paul had helped B & S out with the odd string arrangement in the past, but this was the first time Richard and Paul had been able to work on a collaboration together. The remix took the grungy track in a new direction, mixing it up with brazilian beats and flute samples. The track was also remixed by Cut la Rock, of Skint records, and Steve Hitchcock, and all three released as a single on indie label Jeepster.
Paul went on to work with Gary Lightbody - together they wrote the track ‘Ask me how I am’, which was released both as a single, and then later on Snow Patrol’s album ‘When it’s all over we still have to clear up’. Paul also invited Gary to write a song for the closing title of a soundtrack he was scoring for a David Mackenzie film, 'Marcie’s Dowrie'. |
